The Filmwerkstatt Karlsruhe (FWK) is an organization of independent film makers from the Karlsruhe region intending to support Low- and No-budget-film productions: Small budgets mean creative freedom for the film makers. Big budget productions scarcely take up regional or topical events, because their completion is usually taking up a lot of time. Small productions in comparison are of a much faster origin: they can quickly refer to current or regional topics and are often source of aesthetic innovation. Each genre realised by an committed young film maker usually is a Low-budget production.To support Low- and No-Budget-films means in any case to support the young blood.

But: We do not only intend to support the young people in popular cineastic fields like Direction or Production but as well in many other areas like Make-Up, Acting, Architecture, Design, Sound Design, Administration and so on. No other media than film combines so many different working fields.

The Filmwerkstatt Karlsruhe (FWK) is trying to improve the situation for Low- and No-budget-film makers in the Karlsruhe region: we collect knowledge about existing infra-structures one needs for the film production and arrange the necessary contacts. We are a point of reference for small productions - and we have already proved with our events that small productions can as well meet with the audience's approval.

After having moved into the Gewerbehof in Karlsruhe, where we have editing- and sound-equipment, we created a center for film makers as well as film fans.

The Filmwerkstatt Karlsruhe (FWK) is a new form of support of Low- and No-budget-film productions in Karlsruhe. The experiences from comparable organizations, eg in Nuremberg for 15 years, showed that the effort is worthwhile.
